Let me tell you, I had to get up early this morning. Today we are headed to the Kennebecasis River outside of Hampton for my first attempt at Sturgeon fishing. My guest and guide for the day is Mike Rickett who is working the night shift and is going to hook up with me when I get to Saint John. The city certainly lived up to its reputation this morning with a thick blanket of fog making driving a bit tedious. It also caused a change of plan for launching the boat. We decided to head for the ramp in Hampton instead of trying to drive across the bay in the fog. The good news was that Tim Hortons had opened a store since my last trip there so we made a coffee stop.

Andrew Oliver and I hit the road again in the OLEARY Buick GMC Sierra on another bass fishing trip. The truck just turned one year old and it is as good as the day I picked it up. The only cost to operate so far is a couple of oil changes and tire rotations. The guys at the shop said to ignore the old 5000k rule for oil changes and follow the oil monitor system instead. Easy on the wallet and good for the environment.

The plan for today was to do some deep water drop shot fishing but mother nature has a way of making her own plans. It was a wee bit too windy to hold the boat over the isolated structure that we were going to fish.  Just like a tournament day when things don’t go as expected, Andrew and I just went fishing to try and figure out a pattern.

Backwater Casting Show Four

Well, if you have been watching the show, you know I have been taking a pretty regular beating from the back of the boat by my guests. I figured the best way to cure that little problem was to hit the water by myself and be assured that the count would work out better. The things a guy has to do.

Shawn loaded up the Rogers TV truck and I got the Sierra hooked up to the boat and off we went to the Benton Headpond which is located on the upper end of Eel River. This is an impoundment created by a very low dam on the river itself. I’m not sure if Ducks Unlimited put in the dam but this is a DU watershed. If you are a bird watcher there was no shortage the day we were here.
