Daymaker part 2

We got lucky last week when Daymaker had a last minute cancellation. We had the foresight to tell them to give us a call if an opening came up and we got to hit the water again with Patrick.
We were heading out of the harbor in Stuart just as the sun started breaking on the horizon. What a beautiful way to start the day off. We headed to one of Captain Price’s bait spots and we plied the water with Sabiki rigs in about fifty feet of water. We got enough bait to get our day started and off we went.
The first strike went to David as he set the hook on something substantial and promptly had the rod fold right over and the fight was on. This fish had some muscle and David had to make a couple of trips around the boat and the fish ran around us. It turned out to be David’s first permit and it was a good one.
We headed further out and set the outriggers for trolling deadbaits on the surface. The first hit went to John and he fought a good size Mahi Mahi right to boatside where it did a last minute jump and lunge and threw the hook. We watched a potential supper swim away.
My turn next and I hooked into another Mahi that took twenty minutes to land. A personal best for me and a huge thrill to fight. Our trolling bite slowed right down as the wind dropped and the water went flat. Off we went to do some deep water bait fishing and we picked up a variety of Snapper and a couple of sea Bass for the cooler.
We ended the day right back where David had caught the Permit and although we saw some fish under the boat and a school of permit we didn’t get hooked up again so we headed in. We had a full, busy day on the water and another great fishing experience. Wishing I wasn’t getting ready to head back because I want to go again.
