Summer on Spednic

We had a fun day out on the lake with guest, Nathan Robinson, from Natural Light Photo and Film. For this trip Nathan was on the other end of the camera with Shawn doing the filming.
We hit one of our favourite spots to see if we could get some top water action going before heading down the lake for a little exploring. It didn’t disappoint and we put about ten fish in the boat on that stop.
Then off we went to do a little exploring being very careful to follow the map chart on the Lowrance. Even though the lake is not showing depths on the map, it does show the international border, which is where the old river channel used to run. Pretty safe bet that it was going to be the deepest and safest water to run in.
We tucked into a small cove for a half and hour and tried topwater which produced a few blow-ups but not much else. I did pick up what I refer to as bonus fish by seeing them tucked onto the bottom with the Lowrance.
We fished around the island and picked up a few more on a Blue Fox inline spinner but they were scattered bites. As we got around to the other side there was a long extended point with scattered boulders out to about 11 feet deep. We hammered them here for a good half hour on Jackall Squad Minnow jerk baits. Not something I usually throw in 78 degree water but I am glad I did.
From here we jumped down the lake a mile or so to another likely looking point and dropped the trolling motor and went fishing. Not much but a couple of little guys for a while and then boom, another good one on the jerk bait. A few minutes later and another good hook-up. Strange feeling fight to the boat and when I reached down with the net I had one on the belly hook and one on the tail hook and while I was doing that Nathan also had one on at the back of the boat. Out first triple with only two guys fishing
We picked around the area for a while and picked up some scattered fish but the sound of thunder in the distance had us heading back up the lake a lot faster than we came down. I do not mess around with thunder storms.
All in all it was a fun day, Nathan got to fish a lake he had never been on and I got to see some new sections that I had not fished before.
Tackle today was mostly Crucial and Zodias mh rods with 2500 Stradics with 15 lb Power Pro. My jerk bait rod was rigged with 10 lb mono.051
