Phil and I hit the water yesterday for show seven of Backwater Casting. We headed up to Perth Andover to experience some early fall fishing. It was a bit nerve racking to start because we took the Triton up into the rapids and let me tell you the water is low. Luckily we had a lot of the more dangerous rocks marked on the Lowrance units and came through unscathed.

For the most part it appears that the fish have already started to drop back into deeper water. We did get a few up here but not what we expected and we had to go looking.

We dropped back down into the deep hole right in Perth and picked up a couple of decent fish there and a bunch of juveniles on drop shots in 25 feet. We had thought the big fish might be stacked up there but that was a no go and off we went to search them out. We ended up getting into a decent bunch of fish in the last hour and a half of the day and caught some nice fish. That was a great way to end the day.
Phil and I always have a bet that the guy with the biggest fish gets an ice cream from the other guy. Today I got the free ice cream but I have bought my share in the past.

We had a fun day with some great weather and some really nice Smallmouth. We even had a muskie swim over and check out the boat but couldn’t get it to bite. Most of my fish came to the boat on a Jackall Squad Minnow jerk bait and Phil’s on a Skitter Pop. I was using a Zodias spinning rod with a 2500 Stradic FK reel spooled with 15lb Power Pro and a 15lb fluorocarbon leader. Phil was using a mix of rods rigged with Shimano Stellas.
