Spednic Lake with Mike Milburn

This week is the redo of the show we tried a couple of weeks ago with Mike. Forecast is for wind up to 30k again today so we are taking the Triton which will be much better to fish from if it gets bumpy. We also changed lakes because it was doubtful we could get the big boat off the trailer where we were last trip.
Water is down about two feet from normal so we started on the outside edge of a big flat figuring the fish would move there with the falling water. That didn’t work out too well for us with only a couple of fish to the boat although one was the biggest Chain Pickerel that Mike had ever caught.
This lake is very rocky and uncharted but we used the map function on the Lowrance HDS 9 to follow the line for the border which was the original river channel. After they dammed it and created the lake this is the deepest water so we were able to get up and down the lake safely and idle in and out of spots we wanted to fish.
We worked down the lake a bit and tried working a drop shot down a steep bank but it was also a bit slow and mostly fifteen inch fish. The wind also is picking up about now but not bad.
We went further in and hit a couple of points and Mike found the pattern for the afternoon. The big fish were suspended about 15 feet down over 50 feet of water. He threw a Jackall Squad Minnow out and ripped it down a few feet and let it sit. I guess they just couln’t stand having that big minnow sitting there and they would come up and smash it. I even had two on the same bait for the second time this season.
Shawn also picked up a few on the point with an inline spinner when he took a break from the camera.
Mike was using a Shimano Zodias 270M, 2500 Stadic/ 15 lb Power Pro and a 12 lb flourocarbon leader. I was using a new Exage 6’8″ M rod with a 2500 Nasci reel also with the Power Pro and leader.
Mike ended up with his personal best Pickerel and Smallmouth. Not too bad for a days fishing.
