Florida Jacks

David and I took a trip down to Stuart, Florida to try for Snook. The idea was to buy live bait but it turns out the bait guys don’t work until spring. We tried our hand with a cast net which is a whole other story and quite comical. It is not as easy as the pros make it look.
This was a new area for us and we were not having any success at all. Dave suggested moving over to the channel and hitting the bridge pilings and he gets a small Jack on the first cast. Nothing else as we moved across the different bridge piers until Dave saw the gulls diving into the water on the other side of the bridge.
We moved the boat over and for the next two hours it was absolute chaos with a school of Jacks and Ladyfish busting into bait. There were numerous times we were both hooked up at the same time. Even the average size two pound Jacks fight like demons and the bigger ones are just insane.
We caught so many fish that it was hard to stop, even for some water, but at 90 degrees we had to move the boat up under the bridge to get out of the sun.
The anchor feature on the Minn Kota I Pilot is a great feature and we were able to hit the button on the remote and it held us in place while we fished. Outstanding.
We were fishing with my normal bass tackle of Shimano 6’6″ MH Crucials and Compres, 2500 Stadics and Symetre’s and 15 lb Power Pro. We had started off with Flouro leaders but we ended up tieing direct to the braid when we went to hard baits. One of the really good baits was the Jackall Squad Minnow which seemed like a logical choice with the fish feeding up into the bait.
I shot a lot of video and will try to edit it down today if I get a chance.DSC00356 (1024x768)
