Getting wet.

We just filmed Backwater Casting’s sixth show of the season with long term New Brunswick Sport Fishing volunteer director Tim Chambers. This was a day I was glad to have a tournament competitor on board because it was a challenge.
When I left the house they were calling for chance of thunderstorms after 1pm. We hit the water at 8am and it was hot and humid. It only took five minutes for my glasses to fog up.
Tim nailed one on a topwater on our first stop which, last year, held a large weedbed that was no where to be found this time around. I missed my hit on a tube and that was it.
We fished a shallow flat for a bit and we could see the swirls where the Smallies were pulling dragon flies off of the dollar pads. We caught a good number of fish there but off in the distance it sounded like thunder and it is only 9am.
We were moving to another spot down the lake and Shawn saw a flash of lightening so I headed into towards shore. The area was a bluff bank dropping quickly into 35 ft of water. We were nose into the rocks so were weren’t the high spot anymore. Tim fired his topwater parallel to the shore in about 6 feet and a fish blew up on it. I threw a little Jackall XK Pop Grande top water the other way and got a three pounder. That was the beginning of some incredible fishing that did not make it to the camera. The sky opened up on us and it rained so hard that we could not flim even with the camera rain gear set up. I kept the boat tight to the bank and just drifted down that edge and we caught them on top, on spinners and on dropshot off the break. It rained for at least 90 minutes and the fishing was crazy the whole time. It was amazing watching the fish smash the Pop Grande as it pulled through the waves. We did get a show out of it after the rain cleared. Tim was a great guest on the show and we had a lot of fun out there. I was very happy that I had thrown a couple of light rain jackets in the rod locker.
My drop shot rod is a Shimano Cumara 7’2″ M with a Stadic CI4 reel and 8 lb mono. I was throwing the Jackall Pop Grande on a Shimano Exage rod with a 2500 Stradic and 20lb Power Pro. The tube was on a Zodias 7′MH with a Stradic and 20lb Power Pro and a fluorocarbon leader.
