Fall fishing Woodstock, NB

We had a fun day yesterday fishing with Brian Gray from Miramichi Sport Fishing. No, we were not on the Miramichi chasing Stripers although Brian is all over them right now but we were up in one of our favourite places fishing for Smallmouth outside of Woodstock.
We caught our first fish within a couple of minutes of putting the boat in the water which is not too shabby. We had a double right in front of the town bridge before we headed out into the main river.
Brian hasn’t fished a lot of Smallmouth so I fixed him up with a bunch of different baits to try. His first fish came to the boat on a tube and then he started to try the other baits and caught fish on a dropshot, a Jackall ReRange 110 and a crankbait.
I gave him a mix of equipment to play with as well:
Shimano Intenza 7′ M, 2500 Sahara, 20lb Power Pro, tube
Shimano Zodias 7″ MH, 2500 Stradic, 20 lb Power Pro, ReRange 110
Shimano SLX 7 M, 2500 Stradic, 10 Lb Mono, Crankbait
Shimano { an old friend } V- rod, 2500 Stradic, 8lb Mono, dropshot
The V Rod is not new by any measure but it looks and performs like a brand new rod. Quality pays for itself.
We fished a variety of areas including ledge rock, flats and areas with fast breaks to deep water and caught fish on all of them. I was glad the wind held off as long a it did because when it came it really came. If I let the boat go with it we were drifting at 1.8 miles an hour, that is moving right along.
We had enough fish for a show so our producer Shawn got in on the action and boated some as well. We had several doubles but we never managed a triple header.
If you are looking for a great place for Smallmouth bass fishing, Woodstock is hard to beat. If you want to tie into some crazy Striper fishing give Brian a call he is on them big time. A five hour trip with two clients a couple of days ago had 162 Stipers in the boat. He also can fix you up with a package deal with the Rodd hotel in Miramichi. You can reach him at 506-625-6756 or at miramichisportfishing@gmail.com. He is a great guy to spend some time with in the boat.
