Miramichi Striped Bass Fishing

Backwater Casting made the trip to the Miramichi yesterday to tackle some Stripers. Fishing was a little tougher than we expected but we ended up putting some decent fish in the boat. As you can see from the pictures it was a beautiful day to be out on the water. Our highlight for the day was Rob hooking into a decent fish and Ron grabbed the net. When he scooped up the fish he had two of them in the net as per the pic, only one was hooked. I have been fishing for a very long time and I have never seen that before. That puts Ron up there in the category of “great net man” for sure. He sure did lay on the sunscreen as well. We also had the pleasure of running into Oscar LeBlanc and Dave Chong on the water while they were checking things out for the Striper Cup this weekend. We might have a good clip of them landing a fish but we haven’t seen the raw footage yet. We must have found the right place because we saw Oscar, Brian and Jeff Wilson all in the same general area. All of our bites came on Magnum Fluke style baits or Sand Eels. I toned down a white fluke with a chartreuse dye pen and that was my best performer. I lightly weighted it and kept it moving right on the surface and could see them smash it. It’s a lot of fun on a Shimano Cumara MH bass rod, Stradic 2500 reel and 20 lb Power pro. I kept my eyes on the HDS Live and stayed right along the channel edge for most of the day. I also got a great screen shot of a school of stripers as they approached the boat. I picked them up 8o feet away on the Active Target and watched them all the way in. Pretty awesome technology.
