Ups and Downs

Well, yesterday was a day of ups and downs. Ron and I landed 201 Smallmouth and lost a bunch more in the current. That was an up. We then went to the Hartland launch where we bent the axle on the trailer trying to get the boat out. That was a down. I knew my trailer had come to Phil’s from Woodstock and got the owners name and number from him. Dana helped me source a flatbed tow truck and Sharpe’s towing came and got the trailer. Good folks and great service. That was an up. We trucked the trailer to Baywood Enterprises parking lot and it was after hours. We stripped the boat down and headed for home. Dana saw us on camera dropping the boat off and called a staff member to put it inside the locked compound. Another up. At 930 this morning they called to tell me my stuff was ready to go. Another big up. A big shout out to Phil for getting me in touch with the right folks. It shows that there are lot of great people out there who will step up and make things happen. Thanks again to Dana, Ward and Phil for getting me back ready to fish in about 13hours.
We caught the fish on a few different baits depending on depth and current. Anywhere I had a bit of depth I was throwing a Shimano World Minnow into the back eddies. If it was too shallow I would throw the Shimano 1/2 ounce spinnerbait. Ron is partial to throwing a Soft Stickbait and he got a bunch doing that as well as on the World Minnow. We were both using Shimano 7′ Med rods, 2500 series reels and 20lb Power Pro Super8Slick. This is great fun in the current and the Smallmouth know how to leverage it to their advantage. It was a great day on the water.20250603_12593420250603_102907
