Ron, Maurice and I got out on the water for some smallmouth fishing on Saturday. For me the bite is just weird this season with a good number of fish in the 14 to 16 inch range but almost no big un’s. Morris got the best fish of the day early on and we couldn’t beat it. I started off with the Jackall Pompadour and nailed a smallie on the first cast and a largie on the third. I probably had ten on it before the top water bite quit on us. I took lots of gear to share but the guys were pretty self sufficient with Morris catching on a white tube and a bone coloured Spook style bait and Ron got his on a ReRange and a senko. For me it was the Pompadour, World Minnow and a dark tube. There is a pile of bait in the water that look like young of the year Gaspereau and little Perch. Massive clouds of it over most of the area we fished. Most of what we got was within five to fifteen feet deep. We tried deeper but had no luck with it. WE were using a mix of Shimano 7″ Med rods, 2500 Stradics and Sahara spinning reels spooled with 20 Power Pro Super 8 Slick. 20250807_09483220250802_09122720250802_062657All in all it was a pretty nice day on the water with the wind staying down until about 230 and even then it wasn’t too bad. Another fun day on the water with a couple of good guys and I didn’t hit anything thanks to my track line on the HDS pro. It is a rock minefield in there. See you on the water
